He's making progress!!

I can't believe how fast my little man is healing. Kids are amazing!!! Here's a few more pictures to show his progress.

This was taken on the 10th:
I was so happy to be taking off the wraps and bandages and going to Band-Aids. Well at least until the next morning when they were all falling off. I had to wrap them in the end to keep them on but at least it was better.

And then this was just 2 days later on the 12th. When I saw it had all healed over I figured it was time to let the air at them and boy did that make a difference. We are now band-aid free!!! They are sensitive to touch but he doesn't cry when they are touched or anything. You can pick him up, hold him, touch him and nothing bothers him. He's moving around, climbing on things and his clothes are rubbing on him and he's not phased!! Amazing!

This was him getting ready for his first bath and about a week and a half! He did really well and it didn't seem to bother him. It was nice to get some of the tape marks off. LOL We're still working on those. I should have taken a picture of today (but he's napping now) as they are almost all faded!! =D

Another Present!

Daelyn's birthday has been drawn out this year, she keeps getting surprises in the mail. :) This time from Grandma and Grandpa E.

It's hard to tell what it is since she's holding it backwards. LOL It's 3D Princess stickers complete with 3D glasses. :) She played with them all afternoon!

And she even read the card. :)
She also got a Cheque that we took to the bank this afternoon and cashed for American money on our mini shopping trip this weekend.
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!!!!

Update on the Boy's burns, Day 6

Well it's been almost a week now and we have some improvements. He's not on as much pain meeds and seems to be managing so that's good. The Dr. yesterday said we have to keep his wounds dressed for another two days (we got new dressings today) and then we can move on to regular (full coverage) bandaid kinds of things. I'm not sure how he'll take to those and we may end up using the wraps anyway so he'll leave them alone but we'll see. He is still unfazed by it all, except he's starting to get annoyed with the dressing adjustments/changes. For the most part we leave him alone but the one on his thigh is tricky. It's high up on the top so the dressings keep sliding down if we don't put tape on it to secure it. Well it's all good until he gets up from a nap or in the morning and he's wet the gauze and we have to change it.

Anyway, just thought I'd share a bit of an update and let you know how he's doing. Here's some pics of him from the weekend. OH ya, and we can't bath him so he's got a road map of tape leftovers all over him. The Dr. said we should be able to try baths after Wednesday.

For the faint at heart, I spared you by not posting this last picture. If anyone is interested in seeing what his thigh wound looked like as of Saturday (I think), here ya go! I need to get a new picture as it looked better yesterday at the Dr.

Easy bake Cookies!!

Daelyn says a big thank you to her Aunti J, Uncle B and Cousin Adam in the city for sending out her birthday present which was an Easy Bake Cookies set that you can bake in the microwave! She was very excited when she opened the present, and she loved the drawing from Adam as well!!

I think Hayley was excited too. hehe

We tried making them today once Mack went down for his nap. The cookies were easy, they only took 25 seconds to bake, it was the fondant icing and decorating them that took a while.

Daelyn thought that the whole procedure was pretty fun! THANK YOU!!

This is only half the cookies. We decided to only do two of the fours pack of cookies mix. By the time it was done I was thinking we should have just done them all! LOL Oh and we still have the separate sugar cookies mix to make as well. Might save that for a time we have a friend over. :)

He is his fathers son

So yesterday morning was a bit scary for me. okay a lot scary for me. My husband (with his parents) through his childhood, has seen the emergency room many a times and it looks like it has started for us now too.

It started off as a normal day. The hubs was on days so he did his usual routine and went off to work. Daelyn was having a non school day so she was home as well. We had planned to head off to watch big sister at the Arts Festival in a nearby town later in the morning so I was getting ready in the bathroom. Now if you don't know our house I'll explain. It's a bungalow with the bedrooms, bathroom (not an en-suit so it is in the hallway off the living room sort of), kitchen and living room all on the main floor. So anyway, I was in the bathroom, Daelyn was watching a movie in the living room and Mackster was walking about as usual, poping by the bathroom regularly to check in on me. Nothing unusual.... Then I hear a SMASH and breath taking SCREAM from Mackinley in the kitchen. I can barely even type this without getting a bit teary. I ran out there to find the coffee maker (yes you know it) had not been pushed in to the back of the counter and he had grabbed the carafe. There was only about 1 cup left in it but he had spilt it over himself and then dropped it smashing it to the floor. I grabbed him up and got him into the bathroom to strip him out of his sleeper and douse him in cold water. I grabbed a towel I had soaked to put on him but he wanted none of that. I started running the tub to put him in there and then I noticed that his skin was starting to peel off. OMG Terror ran through me. I know I'm a "retired" paramedic but nothing can prepare you for injuries in your own children. How absolutely terrible! I called The Hubs and we got him up to the hospital right away. The Dr. came and looked at him and she said that it looks like it's just superficial (Thank Goodness!) and they would clean it and dress it up for us. We left with instructions to be heavy on the pain meds, and to make an appointment for the next day to have him reassessed and redressed.

The rest of the day was pretty good considering. We came home, had a bite to eat, and he was pretty tired so he went down for his nap early. He slept most of the afternoon, and woke in good spirits. You could hardly even tell that something so painful had happened to him that morning. The night was good to, he didn't even wake up for more pain meds like I had expected him to. What a trouper!!

So this morning we packed up and headed back to see the Dr. She looked at him and after confirming again that it was just superficial (He has three open sores, one on his arm, one on his chest, and one on his thigh) and they'd redress it and bandage it up again. Now yesterday I had to redress it myself as it was coming undone and all goopy so when I asked for more supplies the Dr. said I wasn't to touch it until Sunday. That's 4 days! I can redress it on Sunday, then I'm to come in on Monday to have it redone again. Frankly that doesn't make sense, but we'll see how the next few days go!

Daelyn was an Angel through this all. She was upset when it happened, of course, but was as calm as a cucumber at the hospital. She was quiet and stayed out of the way as they dressed him up. We were so proud of her!! What a scary thing to see her brother that way.

Hayley? Well we didn't make it to her performance that morning and she was so understanding, only caring that her brother was ok. She was a huge help yesterday to me when I had to do diaper changes and adjustments to his gauze wraps and dressings. She was pretty grossed out by his sores, and didn't like looking at them but she was always there with a shiny bracelet, or dangly necklace to keep his attention.

Needless to say, the coffee maker was pushed as far back as possible this morning. Learn from our mistake, and don't let it happen to you. Just because you don't think they are tall enough to reach one day, let me assure you they will grow that extra inch over night and surprise you!!!
